The Federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is under attack! American voters last November made clear: We don't support same-sex marriage. Homosexual activists will stop at nothing to impose same-sex marriage on the rest of us, "whether we like it or not." Special interests demand that Obama and the new Congress OVERTURN DOMA.

Why should you care? DOMA is the federal law that guarantees the rights of states like California, Florida, and Arizona along with other states that have laws or constitutional amendments defining marriage as the union of husband and wife. Without DOMA, four judges in Massachusetts could impose homosexual marriage on their own unwilling citizens and every United States taxpayer!

Homosexual rights activists have announced plans for HUGE national rallies to overthrow DOMA. They are joined by radical organizations like People for the American Way, calling on supporters asking Congress to overturn DOMA.

We know and they know the American people do not support radical attempts to get rid of laws that protect marriage. They are counting on indifference; silence, an accommodating mainstream media along with Bob Barr's silly op-ed in the LA Times as an excuse for pretending that overthrowing DOMA is somehow a mainstream idea. You and I know better. So here at NOM we are launching a way for you to fight back with a new campaign:

The DOMA Defense Fund www.domadefensefund.com.

You can act today to protect God's vision of marriage for your children and grandchildren. At the DOMA Defense Fund you can:

Send an email message to your Senators and Congressman in Washington, as well as Obama, Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Reid.

If we broaden the declaration, we will build an army of tens of thousands of volunteers working to protect DOMA. Help organize support for DOMA in your community and recruit others to join you.

We're working to get the word out to Americans all across the country. Don't let out-of-touch Washington bureaucrats sneak this one through without a fight. The effort must be from coast to coast with radio and TV ads if needed, to raise awareness of what some Washington insiders are trying to do to marriage.

Please visit the DOMA Defense Fund web site today to see how you can help. Marriage means a husband and wife. Some truths are too basic to give up on.

But that's not the only big news at NOM. The National Organization of Marriage became the ONLY national organization along with California's Protect Marriage to file a lawsuit protecting Prop 8 donors from discrimination and harassment. This lawsuit is the latest in a series of projects aimed at protecting the freedom of all Californians to speak out, vote, and donated money in support of marriage without fear of harassment or retribution.

Some people who supported Proposition 8 had their homes and churches vandalized, were forced to resign their jobs, and were even threatened with violence and death. To stop this harassment and these threats, this lawsuit asks the court to stop the release of the names and personal information of people who gave money to support Proposition 8.

These vile threats, harassment, intimidation and acts of violence against ordinary people MUST stop. You can support NOM's historic federal lawsuit by visiting here. A copy of the complaint filed with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, Sacramento Division, Protect Marriage.com vs. Bowen is available at www.telladf.org/UserDocs/ProtectMarriageComplaint.pdf.

A new study looking at data on 100,000 children by respected scholar Nicholas Zill and a colleague was released this week by the Family Research Council. It confirms, with scientific evidence, what you and I know in our hearts: Faith communities that support marriage protect children.

Let me quote you the study's conclusions as reported in the Baptist Press this week: "An intact two-parent family and regular church attendance are each associated with fewer behavioral problems, more positive social development, and fewer parental concerns about the child's learning and achievement", Zill and Fletcher wrote.

The authors said that children in an intact religious family are more likely to exhibit positive social behavior, including showing respect for teachers and neighbors, getting along with other children, understanding other people's feelings, and trying to resolve conflicts with classmates, family, or friends.

A social scientist might put it this way: Children do better when they are raised in intact married households with a mother and a father. A biologist might claim, "We are a two-sex species, obviously designed for sexual reproduction, not some other kind."

The romantic in me wants to proclaim with all the poets: "Men and women are made for each other."
