Bio-fuels - A Multi-trillion Dollar Mistake
Dick McDonald
It was only yesterday when the mass of humanity believed the world was flat. They reasoned that it looked flat so it must be so. That was a huge social and economic mistake. Recently another huge visual mistake has been made by humanity. They saw some pictures of a naturally occurring phenomenon and again incorrectly concluded that there was a serious problem – global warming. Rather than spending their time analyzing this potential “global warming” phenomenon the present day Flat Earth types, generously called “environmentalists”, sought to correct what has turned out to be no problem whatsoever.
The environmentalist’s solution was to turn food into fuel, call it bio-fuel, and convert all automobiles on Earth to run on this food-cum-fuel. Unfortunately environmentalists didn’t listen to reason; they are “emotional” types that have made what is turning out to be a multi-trillion dollar mistake. Instead of saving the planet humanity awarded the head environmentalist an Oscar and a Nobel Prize for his myopic vision and then they tragically began converting what had been food for human consumption into BIO-FUEL.
Humanity ignored Newton’s third law of physics – every action has a reaction going in the opposite direction with equal force. Land devoted to agriculture was diverted to bio-fuel production which in turn has caused food shortages and their attendant riots because of skyrocketing prices. The affluent in America can afford the increase in food prices but ordinary Americans are getting hammered unmercifully at the grocery store..
To fix blame for this disaster one would have to start with the head environmentalist, Al Gore and his tribes in the media, the Democrat Party and in Hollywood. This has been a massive mistake and tragic on so many levels that humanity will be suffering the consequences for many decades to come. Making Hy-bred cars that run on bio-fuel was so ill conceived it almost matches the flat earth fiasco.
On the surface, bio-fuels sounded like a good alternative to fossil fuels. Hollywood loved it and the Prius was born. Entire rain forests are now being cleared for food-fuel production and much of America’s corn production has also been diverted to bio-fuel production – even Cadillac is making an Escalade to run on bio-fuel. What a financial disaster this cabal of environmental whackos has visited on humanity.
Rather than revisit the fallacy of a planet that has cooled in the last decade by pretending it is warming let’s look at the absolutely absurd reasoning behind bio-fuels. First it costs 70% in fossil fuel to make a gallon of bio-fuel. That means we are getting a net 30% return on our investment in bio-fuels before other factors. Now bio-fuels only contain 70% of the energy of fossil fuels. That reduces the benefit to 21% of fossil fuels (70% x 30%). As it costs 10% to lift and refine fossil fuels. then the 10% differential would increase the efficiency of bio-fuels by 2% (10% of 21%) to 23%.
We therefore come to the conclusion that bio-fuel costs 4 times as much as fossil fuel for the same amount of energy. Additionally we have crippled our food producing capacity and escalated prices right through the roof. The proponents of this tragedy are the Democrats and the RINOs who have bought this fiction. American business should be ashamed of itself for not making the public aware of these consequences. It has been a very costly mistake and the world is going to pay dearly for it.
In the last two decades academe has been emphasizing environmental issues. Now we have kids who believe in their indoctrination that Al Gore is a saint and a visionary. These kids don’t believe in facts. Their education is in feelings and fallacies. The global warming fallacy is right on top of their list and it will take a miracle to dissuade them. They are already accustomed to $4 cups of coffee so high prices will only come home to them when the shortages become so costly they paralyze the world’s poor and some of these kids pay attention long enough to acknowledge it.
What can you say about Al Gore? The man is a business genius; He created a fiction, started a company to financially capitalize on the fiction and then gets rewarded for it. Yet I have a “feeling” that his story will not have a happy ending. You can’t rewrite the law of physics...and speaking of natural laws what do you think would happen if the world had some bad weather in its breadbasket areas. You not only couldn't afford the food, you would have no way to get to the store.
