Commercial Nuclear Fusion Reactors May Be Around the Corner
Rene Guerra

Are you aware of General Fusion, Inc. (www.GeneralFusion.com), a Canadian pre-IPO startup engaged in the development and manufacture of commercial nuclear FUSION reactors for the massive generation of electrical power in a safe, reliable, economical, environmentally compatible, and non nuclear-weapons proliferation fashion?

General Fusion, Inc. employs Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) technology. "General Fusion has patented this technology and believes that a reactor working on this principle could be built at a much lower cost than using the old magnetic and laser fusion approaches. Such a power plant would make fusion a commercially viable clean power source." says the GF website.

General Fusion has been working for 4 years on a working prototype that will be ready in 2 years (2010). Market-ready units would be shipping no later than 5 years later (2015). Those units will be 100 megawatts fusion reactors priced at about $50M each, which means electricity generated at about the low cost of 4 cents/kilowat-hour. They, being so safe, fit perfectly the "neighborhood power plants concept", which eliminates centralization, giving the power grid the modularity that preempts extensive total blackouts.

Commercial fusion could be a key component, if not the key one, in the equation to achieving America’s dry-surface transportation fuel independence, which would be accomplished in conjunction with transportation vehicles powered by electric motors.

Such vehicles would be fed by energy from plug-in batteries, or from hydrogen-fed fuel cells. To that effect, massive amounts of electric energy generated inexpensively would be required. Fusion would provide the solution.

Achieving that momentous goal seems very close, based on the advances that General Fusion is making in the matter.

It seems that the time may be here for Set America Free considering fusion seriously as a prospective variable in the solution of the problem posed by the most urgent need that America become energy independent.

The day General Fusion, Inc. ships its first commercial nuclear fusion reactor, the prices of petroleum and natural gas will go south, to be followed by the economy of the petrotyrants and petroautocrats blackmailing America with their hydrocarbons.
