Consider:
"1. Immediate revision of taxes on capital gains and undistributed profits in
order to free investment funds
2. Reduced expenditures to achieve a balanced budget, and thus, to still
fears deterring business expansion
3. An end to coercion and violence in relations between capital and labor
4. Opposition to "unnecessary" government competition with private
enterprise
5. Recognition that private investment and enterprise require a reasonable
profit
6. Safeguarding the collateral upon which credit rests
7. Reduction of taxes, or if this proved impossible at the moment, firm
assurance of no further increases
8. Maintenance of state rights, home rule, and local self-government, except
where proved definitely inadequate
9. Economical and non-political relief to unemployed with maximum local
responsibility
10. Reliance upon the American form of government and the American system of
enterprise"
Would you have ever guessed who accepted "culpability" for having written
those ten authentically conservative tenets in 1937, amid the storm FDR was
creating with the impending New Deal?
A normal conservative Republican, you would have thought.
Wrong!
It was a Democrat, U.S. Senator Josiah Bailey of North Carolina, who took
responsibility for what is knows as "The Conservative Manifesto".
He wasn’t alone, though; he coauthored it along with other few Democrats and
some Republicans. He was the only one who had the guts to step forward,
though.
Would any Democrat in the U.S. Congress--or even a Republican, for that
matter--of nowadays have the minimal boldness to adhere to anything like
that?
Not even in dreams!
Worse, if the following entries were added, to catch up with the times and to
neutralize the prevailing noxious atmosphere created by the Democrats and the
rest of the Left in American society:
11. Absolute respect for innocent life, particularly the unborn, ensured by a
constitutional amendment banning abortion on demand
12. Strict enforcement of the immigration law and no path to citizenship to
those illegally in American territory
13. Strict respect for the Constitution as written
14. Strict respect of the inalienable truth that supreme sovereignty resides
in the people
15. No legislation by the Judiciary
16. Effective-democratic republic for America, meaning a republic with free,
secret ballot and participatory-democracy form of governance at all levels of
government
17. Term limits at all levels of government
18. Maximum respect for individual rights
19. A constitutional amendment to protect marriage as an entente only between
two consenting adults of the opposite sex
20. America as a melting pot, not as a caldron of "diversity," which is a
codeword the Democrats and the Left use for Balkanization
21. A constitutional amendment mandating federal balanced budgets
22. English as the official and only language for government business
23. English as the official and only language to imparting K-12 education;
other languages as optional courses in curricula
24. Maximum protection of America’s sovereignty
25. Minimal necessary taxes
26. Minimal government spending
27. Line-Item Veto power to the President
28. Minimal size, but functional, government at all levels
29. Maximum respect for, and promotion of, free entrepreneurialism
30. Maximum functional power to state and local government; minimal necessary
power to the federal government
31. An overall almighty America, socially & morally, and politically,
financially & economically, militarily & intelligence-wise, law &
order, educationally, scientifically & technically, industrially, and
infrastructurally
32. Total national energy independence
33. Spread of effective democracy abroad as one of the best tools for
America’s national security is, for not ever an effective democracy has
inflicted physical aggression on America
34. In summary, total commitment to ". . . hold these truths to be
self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their
Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and
the pursuit of Happiness."
Ha! If you give such a kind of a proclamation to a Democrat in the U.S.
Congress to sign, you would for sure give the poor bastard a heart attack
accompanied with a stroke just after reading it. If given to a
generic-Republican one, the spineless, jelly-legs jerk would, on the spot, get a
very aqueous gastrointestinal dysfunction that would require from him, or her,
to gulp a bottle of Imodium washed down with a bucket of PeptoBismol.
It’s unbelievable how easy --and with something so simple-- is to make
seriously sick any member of the U.S. Congress.
